This minisymposium features advances in finite element techniques to accurately and efficiently simulate both harmonic and transient waves. Topics include high order finite element methods, new types of spacetime, hybrid, discontinuous, and Petrov Galerkin finite element methods, new analytical results with numerical implications, efficient parallel solvers, preconditioning strategies for time harmonic problems, innovations in adaptive local time stepping, numerical conservation of pertinent invariants of wave solutions, and mathematical advances in application domains including nonlinear optics and elastodynamics.
